What is considered cheating on your spouse will vary depending on the couple. However there are a few instances in which everyone acknowledges you have cheated on your spouse. Many times spouses will turn to someone else when they are not getting what they want from their partner, this may simply be for sex, and emotional need or simply to get away and explore. Types of cheating can be really broken down into two categories a physical affair and an emotional affair.

Physical affairs that result in sex can definitely be considered cheating on your spouse. This also includes any for of making out or inappropriate behavior that would not exist between friends. If you can't talk about with your husband or another family member then you have been cheating.

An emotional affair can also happen in which no touching has occurred but interestingly enough men and women have differing views about whether this can be considered cheating. Women become upset when their partner makes an emotional connection with someone even if sex is not involved whereas men tend to be more concerned about sex, though by no means does this apply to all women or men.

There is also the lure of online cheating and that can become even more complicated. If your partner is cheating on you with someone online the lines on what is considered cheating is very blurry, as they may have never met the person they are cheating with online in person.. What is considered cheating will depend largely on your spouse and the extent of the online cheating.

Many times the cheating partner still loves and cares for their partner. They are simply not getting everything they want from the marriage, this can happen particularly as the honeymoon period is over. Some affairs can be in retaliation for actions or after a fight. Some affairs are simply due to lust and many times you feel that you are not satisfied and have found someone better.

In every relationship you will reach a lull and the relationship becomes stale. As anyone in a long term, happy situation will reveal you have to work at it. Just because you are together does not mean you should stop 'dating' your partner. Those spouses that have remained faithful will feel betrayed and while your marriage may stay together there will be some serious trust issues to deal with that may never be fully resolved. The one time when I believe cheating would be okay is if you give your partner the okay with their dream girl/boy. It will probably never happen but they can still keep the hope alive!
